Interview with APAC Role Models

Unveiling Excellence: The Performance Culture Role Models of LANXESS APAC.

In September last year, 21 employees from the Asia-Pacific region were selected as the 2023 APAC Performance Culture Role Models from 53 nominations. Xnet interviewed Da-jeong Lim, a role model who is based at our office in Korea.

Xnet: Can you briefly introduce yourself and your role within LANXESS?
Da-jeong Lim: Hello, my name is Da-jeong Lim. I work at LANXESS Korea, where I have been employed since 2016, starting as an intern and transitioning to a full-time position. LANXESS is my first and only employer to date. I primarily handle regulatory affairs, focusing mainly on domestic chemical regulations, particularly the K-REACH. Ensuring compliance with these regulations to facilitate the importation of chemical products into Korea is my main responsibility. Additionally, I am responsible for various other chemical regulatory and safety health matters.

Xnet: How did it feel to be recognized as a Performance Culture Role Model, and what does this acknowledgment mean to you?
Da-jeong Lim:
Being recognized as a role model for performance and cultural values was truly gratifying. While I have always worked with a sense of ownership and strived to be helpful to others, having someone acknowledge those efforts meant a lot. At the same time, it humbles me greatly. I sincerely appreciate this recognition, as it reinforces my commitment to positively contribute to our organization and further strengthens my dedication to supporting my colleagues. Additionally, it serves as motivation to continue my efforts to achieve outstanding results and inspire others.

Xnet: How do you incorporate LANXESS Performance Culture values into your daily work?
Da-jeong Lim:
In my daily work, I incorporate LANXESS Performance Culture
values most through Ownership and Professionalism. When carrying out tasks, I prioritize those deemed important by the company, setting the task priorities accordingly. I pay closer attention to tasks that contribute to the company's profitability. Additionally, I endeavor to stay updated on changes in South Korea's chemical regulations to further my expertise in my field. In instances of issues, I make sure not to overlook areas I do not understand and consistently strive to identify their underlying causes and reasons.

Xnet: How do the Formula X guiding principles influence your approach to challenges and decision-making?
Da-jeong Lim:
When performing regulatory tasks, I often encounter new challenges. In such situations, the principle of "Keep it simple" helps to reveal the essence of the problem clearly and find efficient solutions. Sometimes, even seemingly difficult problems can be addressed by following this principle.

The principle that has the greatest impact on my decision-making is "Take ownership." When carrying out tasks, I do not just consider my own area but also immediately share and seek solutions for issues that may affect others or the team. This approach not only helped broaden my scope of work but also contributed to enhancing my expertise. By collaborating to solve problems and achieve results together, I have been able to make significant progress in becoming a better team member.

Xnet: What message would you like to convey to employees striving to make a positive impact in the workplace?
Da-jeong Lim: Our efforts not only contribute to the growth of LANXESS but also greatly impact the enhancement of individual expertise. As each of us showcases our abilities and continues to grow, we will evolve into more proficient professionals. Furthermore, our endeavors will lead LANXESS to become a leader in expertise. Even the smallest efforts will aid in our growth, and ultimately, every effort will bring about significant change. Let us strive together to realize our vision, take pride in our achievements, and accomplish even more in the future.
